The wait is over in:
“Worth The Wait” is….
a concept album by Kenny Peters coming … 1/1/21.Okay, it will probably be before then, BUT with as crappy as 2020 has been so far, with not only the “normal” unexpected things, it seems that everyone and everything has been affected somehow by Covid-19 and the terrible coronavirus pandemic. In fact, even though I feel that Worth The Wait is strong enough in its uplifting nature and positive messages, I’m not sure that it belongs in this year; that the intent of the message will be lost among the baffling resistance to help rid us of this thing, the upheaval in American society and politics (although “The Color of Light” has grown exponentially because of these things) – but more likely because … it’s just not “ready” yet. if you know me, you know that the NEED for these songs to be as perfect as possible is paramount and I’m not gonna follow my norm and rush it when it’s not finished baking. I learned because of MacArthur Park, and I might never have this recipe again.
It is however, still a concept album project telling a life story of a man – my story – covering approximately a 40+ year period…from the age of 10 unto his 50’s, through times both turbulent and good. It is the story of a life and the lessons, feelings, and experiences along the way. One of the best mediums of expression is music and thus, the project began.
“I have a story to tell, and it’s time to tell it..”
Music….
Is truly the “Universal Language”…..
…and most assuredly why this journey of “Worth The Wait” – a journey of a life through music – began – and now continues – as more than just a song – but most assuredly the reason these stories and tales of this journey ever continue to exist …
There’s a song by a certain artist whom I appreciate with a lyric which says:
“If there is music there, I’ll have to go…”
(by the way, you get extra brownie points if you know the song that comes from, and super brownie points if you got all the feels when you heard it for yourself the first time.)
The project itself is now entering its 6th and final year of work, with admittedly some much-longer-than wanted delays occurring in that time. Long, for an album, certainly, but in retrospect, it’s provided an extended period of introspection, writing and production, trial & error, and now, formal technical education to finish these songs correctly in terms of engineering and production.
I am extremely proud of what’s coming together here – for the music was always “present” in my head and was detailing what I was living through… and I hope to end up with a great pop album that I’m dreaming of. There are great strides being made every week now, and the amazing progress just makes me swell with pride as I see tangible evidence forming of what I so love doing. It’s the process of getting it into a recorded form that has been the real trick, improving the techniques I was using, {correcting decades of technical recording mistakes and sourced material) and recording wonderful new music, most importantly. “Grace” marks the first song I’ve ever written completely using software and a midi keyboard, or on a Mac, and just this past week (September 15, 2019) we returned old school by finishing up the studio work on “With Love” in style where everything was played by hand, except ironically the strings, which were digitized.
I’m also hoping that people will realize this is a POP album and will be in an ever-changing form now for at least until early March, which kind of adds to the excitement of the project. My original material will always be featured on Reverbnation and more than likely follow on Spotify (*where it is now) along with iTunes, Google Music and all of the associated platforms when deemed releasable, and of course, the album gets a full official release on May 1, 2020. It is not hip hop or rap or tied to any particular “style” or trend. It is my belief that there’s something in here for everyone, but I am appealing to your inner voice to hear that. It may not even be something you like stylistically, but I do hope you’ll appreciate the project for what it is offered at. It is at times loud, at time soft, many times borderline eclectic… it is “me”.
This is an album of the music that I’ve heard detailing these events and what has been in my heart as this life has sailed by, alternately punching me silly and then tickling me beyond belief at times; these words, these melodies, and these ideas…they’ve simultaneously reminded and taught me who I am, and they’ve been what has gotten me by. The best part about this project was that it taught me some patience, as some of the lessons and fates were learned even during this process, hence part of the delay.
Some things just weren’t quite ready to be written yet, as if I still had to learn the words to my own story.
Read the “About” page to find the more full background behind this concept album. I do so hope you’ll subscribe to the updates either via email or the site. Either way, I will stand proud behind this volume of work which represents such a large portion of my life, and my only hope is that you find – and feel – something in the message too. I’ve been through a lot along this path as we all have, and for anyone who struggles to realize a dream, I hope this can stand as a beacon for you to NEVER give up on what you believe.
